Hong Kong Foreign Domestic Carers — what applicants should know
Hong Kong has announced a pilot scheme to admit foreign domestic carers for elderly home care. The scheme is modelled on the foreign domestic helper system, with higher training and experience requirements.
Caregiver HK (caregiver.hk) explains the public rules and, when applications open under the official process, matches qualified carers with families.

What the government has said so far
- Training in your home country that Hong Kong recognises
- Standard at least comparable to a residential-care health worker
- About three years of elderly-care experience
- Live-in work at the employer’s home
- You may also do housework
- Minimum wage expected to be 10–20% higher than the helper minimum wage
- Current helpers cannot switch status while staying in Hong Kong; they would need to return home, complete recognised training, and apply again
Details can change when Labour Department and Immigration Department issue the operating rules.
Who this is for
You may be a fit if you have real elderly-care experience, certificates you can verify, and you accept live-in home care — not hospital nurse registration in Hong Kong.
You are not a Hong Kong registered nurse just because you did nursing study abroad.

Do not pay anyone who promises a guaranteed Hong Kong visa before official procedures exist. Hong Kong law also limits how much an employment agency may charge a job seeker.
